Government Datasets, Statistical Data & Census Information

To leverage Google Advanced Search effectively for finding datasets, let's consider an example search for "global temperature data":

1. Go to Google Advanced Search at https://www.google.com/advanced_search.
2. In the "all these words" field, enter relevant keywords such as "global temperature data."
3. To ensure the search focuses on datasets, include terms like "data" or "table" in the "this exact word or phrase" field.
4. Since Google ignores the word "AND," use "OR" in all caps to find similar terms. For example, "temperature OR climate."
5. Specify the document type if necessary by entering "filetype:xls" for Excel files or "filetype:csv" for CSV files in the "file type" field.
6. To search within specific websites or domains, add "site:" followed by the desired site or domain. For example, "site:.gov" for government websites or "site:.edu" for educational institutions.
7. Exclude irrelevant terms or websites using the "-" sign. For instance, "-site:wikipedia.org" to exclude Wikipedia pages.

After setting these parameters, click "Advanced Search" to view the results tailored to your criteria. This approach can help narrow the search and yield more relevant datasets on global temperature data. Additionally, consider using Google Dataset Search (https://datasetsearch.research.google.com/) for curated datasets.
