Textbook Affordability and Adoption: Assistance Available Through the University Libraries

by Kristy Padron on 2023-10-06T00:00:00-04:00 | 0 Comments

A recent campus communication from the FAU Division of Academic Affairs reminds faculty to select textbook and course materials for spring 2024. Faculty are recommended to consider the affordability of texts and other learning materials. Other than using textbooks, your FAU Libraries liaison can assist you with exploring options by using open education resources (OER) and library-licensed materials.  See the following links for additional information:

Find OER and ways to evaluate them.  If you are interested in creating your own OER, see the pages on authoring and licensing.

This guide provides information on options and recommended practices for FAU faculty and instructors who want to use library-licensed materials for their courses.  Such materials may include ebooks, streaming videos, and more.

Your library liaison can assist with identifying your options for open textbooks, learning objects, or sources that the library can purchase.

In addition, faculty can donate their textbook to the Libraries’ Textbook Reserves

For more information on textbook affordability and various university and state-level initiatives, see your liaison or https://library.fau.edu/textbook-affordability.
