Open Education Week is March 6 – 10, 2023. It is an internationally recognized time with the goals of improving the quality, accessibility, and affordability of education by facilitating and encouraging open education practices.
What do open access, open data, open science, and open education resources (OER) have in common? Educators use them and other means to make teaching and learning available to a broader range of people. Traditional education is essential to prepare learners for many aspects of their future, while open education complements it in the following ways:
Open Education Resources (OER). OER is defined as teaching and learning materials that can be freely used or reused at no cost. They can include textbooks as well as images, lesson plans, learning objects, and courseware. OER typically makes learning materials and objects available with minimal barriers or costs. They can augment assigned textbooks when they do not adequately cover the content necessary to fulfill learning objectives.
