Fair Use Week is February 20 – 24, 2023. The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) designated this time to highlight and promote what fair use allows with copyrighted works.
Are you curious about using books, articles, journals, or other sources in your courses or scholarly works but unsure where to find information? See the following Research Guides for authoritative sources on copyright and fair use:
This page provides essential information on copyright, its statutes, and exceptions such as fair use, Classroom Performance, and public domain.
For those teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses, this guide introduces how copyright applies to these settings. It also provides codes of best practices in various disciplines and information about fair use.
The library often receives questions about using movies and multimedia in courses. This guide introduces points to consider and recommended practices for doing this, along with library multimedia sources available to the FAU community.
Each guide provides recommended books and multimedia available through the FAU Libraries and explanations in plain language. The guides also provide webinar recordings and slides on these topics done by the library and with the Center for Online and Community Education (COCE).
Do you want a copyright education presentation for your department or class? Scholarly Communication Services provides them for staff, faculty, and courses on these topics. Contact scholarlycomm@fau.edu and visit its website at https://library.fau.edu/scholarly-communication for other topics. We are not attorneys and cannot interpret the law, but we can provide some information!
