Florida's Historic ConstitutionFlorida's constitution outlines its form of government, including the powers and responsibilities of state and county officials. The constitution was framed by a constitutional revision commission and approved in 1968, but many of its provisions date back to the 19th century.
The original manuscripts or contemporary copies of each of Florida's 19th-century constitutions, the 1812 constitution of the short-lived Republic of East Florida, and the state's 1861 Ordinance of Secession are included. This site will provide digitally scanned copies of the original and transcription of what is written on the page.
1997-1998 Florida Constitution Revision CommissionThe websites for the 1997-1998 and 2017-2018 Florida Constitution Revision Commissions trace the chronological development of Florida's Constitutions. I've included copies of each Florida constitution as it existed upon ratification, proposed amendments, and Florida Supreme Court decisions affecting ballot position. Also included, when available, are cites to contemporary analyses of the various proposals the Public Administration Clearing Service prepared as part of their Civic Information Series for the 1997-1998 process.
