African Wildlife Foundation
Species conservation is central to the African Wildlife Foundation’s mission. They help protect species with everything from securing habitat, protection and surveillance, targeted partnerships, mitigating human-wildlife conflicts, providing support to sanctuaries and building local capacity.

Animal Diversity Web (ADW) is an online database of animal natural history, distribution, classification, and conservation biology at the University of Michigan
Classification of Living Things: An Introduction to the Principles of Taxonomy
This tutorial introduces the Linnaean system of classification used in the biological sciences to describe and categorize all living things. The focus is on finding out how humans fit within this system. In addition, you will discover part of the great diversity of life forms and come to understand why some animals are considered to be close to us in their evolutionary history.
eNature.com
eNature.com provides information about the wild animals and plants of the United States. The site's core content of wildlife information about almost 6,000 individual species is the same data set used to create the printed Audubon Field Guides. All the data has been carefully reviewed and vetted by leading biologists, zoologists and other natural history specialists.
Encyclopedia of Life
A web site providing information and images of various species and life forms.
The Jane Goodall Institute
One of the JGI's mission is to improve global understanding and treatment of great apes through research, public education and advocacy.
Tree of Life
The Tree of Life Web Project is a collection of information about biodiversity compiled collaboratively by hundreds of expert and amateur contributors. Its goal is to contain a page with pictures, text, and other information for every species and for each group of organisms, living or extinct. Connections between Tree of Life web pages follow phylogenetic branching patterns between groups of organisms, so visitors can browse the hierarchy of life and learn about phylogeny and evolution as well as the characteristics of individual groups.
U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is a bureau within the Department of the Interior. Their mission is to work with others to conserve, protect and enhance fish, wildlife and plants and their habitats for the continuing benefit of the American people. This site is rich with links to similar web sites, and also provides information on laws and legislation affecting wildlife. For information relating to Florida, see also State of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Orangutan Foundation International
Established in 1986 by Dr. Biruté Mary Galdikas, OFI supports the conservation, protection, and understanding of orangutans and their rainforest habitat in Borneo, while caring for and rehabilitating ex-captive orangutans for release back into the wild. Our work includes: orangutan rescue, rehabilitation, and repatriation; habitat protection, acquisition, and restoration; and conservation outreach, education, and scientific research. We have protected 1.5 million acres of rainforest habitat, and saved hundreds of captive and orphaned orangutans from death or a dire life in captivity-giving them a second in the wild.
OFI works in cooperation with the Indonesian government and communities in Borneo to expand national parks, establish reserves, buy and safeguard land, and replant degraded forest areas to create permanently-protected orangutan habitat. We raise awareness about the plight of orangutans and other wildlife species through local and global outreach and education programs.
Smithsonian's National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute
The Smithsonian's National Zoo is home to over a dozen species of primates. Visitors to the website can click on primate featured to learn more about them.
Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund
Decades of daily direct protection have saved mountain gorillas from the brink of extinction and stabilized their tiny population. We have now expanded the same methods to help save nearby critically endangered Grauer’s gorillas, which have experienced dramatic declines in the last few decades. We know from our decades of research that this daily protection is critical to conservation success.
American Society of Primatologists
ASP is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) professional organization dedicated to the scientific study of primates. The membership of ASP is a diverse community of individuals who support research and facilitate better science about primates, ensure the conservation and welfare of primates, and educate the public and policymakers about primates.
