The bluebook : a uniform system of citation From the Book's Preface: The current edition of The Bluebook retains the same basic approach to legal citation established by its predecessors. The layout of the Bluebook has been updated to make the information more accessible. Some citation forms have been expanded, elaborated upon, or modified from previous editions to reflect the ever-expanding range of legal writing authorities and respond to suggestions from the legal community.

U.S. Government Publishing Office Style Manual (GOV.INFO) Essentially, the Style Manual is a standardization device designed to achieve uniform word and type treatment, and aiming for economy of word use. Such rules as are laid down for the submission of copy to the GPO point to the most economical manner for the preparation and typesetting of manuscript. Following such rules eliminates additional chargeable processing by the GPO.
