This movie introduces Boy to the Tarzan movie franchise. Boy’s parents are killed in a plane crash in the jungle, and Tarzan and Jane rescue and raise the infant as their own. Originally, the film’s writers had Jane dying from a wound at the end of the movie. However, the ending was re-shot after a backlash from fans, and Jane survived her injury.
The underwater scenes of Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid were filmed at Weeki Wachee Spring. Newt Perry, Florida’s underwater swimming expert, coached Ann Blyth, the “mermaid,” for the water scenes. Nancy Tribble, of Tallahassee, one of the first Weeki Wachee “mermaids,” performed the more challenging feats.
Creature from the Black Lagoon has become one of the classic monster movies of the film industry. The success of this movie and its two sequels helped save Universal Studios from bankruptcy in the mid-1950s. Ricou Browning of Tallahassee was one of the two stunt men who played the Creature. He later worked with Ivan Tors on the television show Sea Hunt and co-wrote the story, Flipper.

Fort Lauderdale served as both the setting and filming location for this movie. A year after the film’s release, Fort Lauderdale became the destination for thousands of college students on Spring Break. It remained the number-one Spring Break spot for nearly three decades.
Ivan Tors of Sea Hunt produced this movie based on a story co-written by Tallahasseean Ricou Browning. Browning began his film career as the Creature in The Creature from the Black Lagoon. He worked on the movie Flipper, and later on the popular television show. Luke Halpin starred in both the movie and the television series, as well as in the sequel, Flipper’s New Adventure.

The true story of Winter provided the inspiration for Dolphin Tale. Winter, a dolphin, lost her tail in a crab trap and was fitted with an artificial one. She now lives at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, one of the movie’s filming locations. Winter plays herself in the film.
