Create a "Hanging Indent"

Use the code noted here (in "Source" mode in LibGuides) to create a hanging indent. If you want to have a larger amount of "indent" space, adjust the numbers (-17px and 17px) to a larger number (make certain both numbers are the same) or to a smaller number if you want a smaller amount of "indent" space (again, make certain both numbers are the same).

This formula also includes an initial number (1.) followed by a space ( ) for numbering the text.

See the formula below, and then see an example of the formula when it has been put into the "Source" mode. A second example is also shown to indicate how the hanging indent looks.

<p style="text-indent: -17px; padding-left: 17px;">1. &nbsp;

1.  This is what a long line of text looks like when using a Hanging Indent. The second line and subsequent lines are automatically indented by the number of pixels shown (17 pixels in our example).
