This article provides an overview of some of the key concepts related to study design and statistical inference that are important to accurately measure clinical outcomes and to appropriately interpret the results of studies within the context of evidence-based decision making.
Among the important scientific developments of the 20th century is the explosive growth in statistical reasoning and methods for application to studies of human health. Examples include developments in likelihood methods for inference, epidemiologic statistics, clinical trials, survival analysis, and statistical genetics.
