The Great Black Music Project, an archival system using the latest technological processes to be housed at the Jacob H. Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies(JHCCICS) and a virtual house on the world wide web - accessible globally by all interested. The capabilities of the project are vast enough to be a repository of both audio and video, recordings, photos, news clips, essays, critical review and thought - from the analog past to the digital future.

This multimedia anthology selected from various Library of Congress holdings illustrates the vibrant and diverse forms of popular entertainment, especially vaudeville, that thrived from 1870-1920.

1,395 photographs taken by American photographer Carl Van Vechten (1880-1964) between 1932 and 1964. The bulk of the collection consists of portrait photographs of celebrities, including many figures from the Harlem Renaissance.

3,042 pieces of sheet music drawn from the Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library at Duke University
