Shelf surfing is a good way to find books that are not easily found in the catalog. Knowing where to look for books on your subject is key to finding the books on the shelf. Below are call numbers sorted by subject. Books on art, photography, and handicrafts/arts and craft are often listed under the following call number:
Art
Photography
Handicrafts/Arts and crafts
Handicrafts/Arts and crafts - Call Numbers: TT1-TR999
SUBJECT HEADINGS
You can also search the library catalog by using subject headings. Subject headings can be a word, group of words, or phrase used to describe what the book is about. The following is a partial list of subject headings related to Art that can be used when searching for books and other items in the FAU Libraries Catalog.
Below is a list of suggested books free to use through the library. This is not a comprehensive list but rather a starting point. If you would like to view our full catalog of books on art please click here.
Please note that the books without call numbers are available online and may require you to log in using your MyFAU ID and password. The books with call numbers are physical books housed in the library. The books with the call numbers starting with N are located on the 3rd floor, west side of the library. The books with the call numbers starting with Z are located on the 4th floor, east side of the library.
A call number is the combination of letters and numbers that indicates where an item can be found in the library. Most call numbers are located on the spine or front of a book.
If you have looked in the catalog and in the databases and still cannot find the material that you are looking for, or if you know the specific name of the book or article that you are trying to find that you know is not at FAU, you can use interlibrary loan (ILL).
Interlibrary loan uses a program to process your requests and find items at other libraries. Intralibrary loan will request materials that are located at other FAU branches. You can also use ILL to track your requests once they have been entered. Materials can then be picked up at Boca Raton or the branch closest to you.
Remember that FAU will not interlibrary loan required texts for your class or materials that are already owned by FAU, so if an item is missing from the shelves, fill out a lost or stolen materials form and submit it online or at the service desk. REMEMBER Interlibrary loan takes time (7-10 days), so you cannot wait until the last minute to request these materials.
