Course Reserves

  • Faculty teaching Distance Learning courses can provide class materials online using the FAU Libraries Electronic Reserve service. Faculty who need assistance may consult the Reserve Information for Faculty web page.
  • Students who need to access electronic reserve materials for their classes must search the FAU Library Course Reserves site.
  • In order to read electronic reserve documents, you must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your hard drive. If this software is not on your PC, you may download and install it for free by clicking here.

Interlibrary Loan

To obtain materials not available electronically, Distance Learners should use Interlibrary Loan in order to:

  • Borrow circulating books and other materials from the FAU Libraries
  • Obtain photocopies of articles in FAU-owned journals
  • Obtain journal articles FAU does not own from other libraries

To use Interlibrary Loan, it is necessary to complete the registration form, entering your "profile" information and acquiring a user name and password. The system will retain this information, making it easier for you to borrow materials in the future. The system also allows you to check the status of your current and past requests. Please see the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) web page to register and learn more about policies and procedures.  Be sure to click "Distance Learner" as your Patron Status. If you are a Distance Learner not affiliated with FAU, please choose "DCU Distance Learner" for Dept/Major.

We will send FAU-owned books and all photocopies of articles via direct mail to the preferred mailing address you indicate on the ILLiad registration form. To order books not owned by FAU, you should use a nearby public library or public university. You are responsible for keeping your ILLiad account updated with any change of address. Please see the Document Delivery web page for more information.

Borrowing Privileges

The OWL Card, the official picture identification card for FAU, is required to obtain library services for all students, faculty and staff. The 14-digit number ("21976…," minus the A's) on the bottom of the card is your library card number. If you are unable to obtain a card at an FAU campus, please fill out the online application.  It is necessary to activate your card with the Access Services Department.

If you have any questions or problems using your library card, please call the library Service Desk at 561-297-6911 or email us at lycirc@fau.edu. For more information on circulation policies and procedures, go to the Access Services Department web page. FAU students and faculty may also check out materials at all other Florida public universities and community colleges, as provided by a state-wide reciprocal borrowing agreement.
