NVivo Availability, Tutorials and Books

NVivo is a qualitative research software.  Users can import text, audio files, video, email, spreadsheets, web content and more into NVivo to organize, explore and analyze many documents for qualitative and mixed methods research.  In addition, many utilize NVivo to identify themes and explore connections during a literature review.

Availability at FAU Libraries

As of May 2022, NVivo is available in the FAU Libraries during normal library hours and on a first-come, first served basis.  It can be found on labeled workstations in following locations:

Jupiter Campus:  1 PC

Boca Raton Campus, Wimberly Library:

  • 2 PC laptops available for borrowing (1st Floor West, Media Services)
  • 3 PCs:  1st Floor East (Instruction and Engagement Services)
  • 1 PC:  1st Floor East (Assistive Technology Workstation)
  • 2 MACs:  1st Floor West (Alumni Alcove)
  • 1 PC:  2nd Floor West (Graduate Student Study Area)

Save Your Files - Recommendations for Users

  • Save your work frequently in case of power outages, computer crashes or other unforeseen events.
  • Users should save their work on a USB flash drive or a cloud drive of their choice (e.g., FAU Google Drive or a personal cloud drive) while they work and before logging off the computer. 
  • Library PCs and laptops have DeepFrozen software which removes user files or work after reboot or log off; your work cannot be retrieved afterward.

Use Atlas.ti for the qualitative analysis of large bodies of textual, graphical, audio and video data.

MAXDQA Tutorials


MAXDQA works with many data formats.  It can be used for conducting research using many methods of analysis, e.g. Grounded Theory, qualitative content analysis, group discussions, discourse analysis, and case and field studies.
