Legal Resources

Cases

What cases will I find in the Westlaw database?

  • Federal and state appellate court opinions
  • Federal lower court opinions
  • Federal coverage begins 1790
  • Will not find trial court or lower court decisions

Why would I use a database?

The World Wide Web can be useful for providing some types of information but often research using databases will provide better sources of information. Many sources in databases are not freely available from the Internet. These include magazines, legal journals, newslettersscholarly journals, and newspapers.
