The brief record in the library catalog provides the following information about an item, and can help locate it:

Catalog Record

  • Bibliographic information such as its title, author, and publication year.
  • Type of Material shows if it is a print book, eBook, streaming video, or other type of source.
  • Campus & Location such the which FAU campus has the item.
  • Call Number is the letters and numbers assigned to the item.
  • Availability that shows if the book is available to be borrowed.

Locating Books in the FAU Library and Beyond

FAU Library Catalog

The Library Catalog allows you to search for books, government documents, DVDs, electronic books, and other materials in the Library's collection. The catalog will tell you if the library owns a particular periodical (journal or magazine) but does not include the articles found in periodicals. To find these you must use the databases (see "Databases" tab above). The Advanced Search screen allows you to combine terms using “and", "or", and "not” as well as limiting a search by location, date, format, or language.

OneSearch

OneSearch is a good place to start your research. Search across a variety of quality information provided by FAU Libraries: Journal and newspaper articles, books, maps, music, videos, and more.

WorldCat Database

The WorldCat database allows you to search a combined catalog of most of the libraries in North America, and many in other parts of the world. Items not owned by FAU may be ordered through the Interlibrary Loan service.

To request books from other libraries, use Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Loan time takes 7-10 days, so don’t wait until the last minute!
