Get started with Hangouts
With Hangouts, you can send messages and make video calls on multiple devices to multiple people. You can also share photos and your location with others. You can keep touch with family and friends at home or when you're on-the-go through Hangouts in Gmail, Google+, the Chrome exension, or on your iOS or Android Device.
What you need to get started on Hangouts
To use Hangouts, you’ll need a Google Account.

Sign up for Google+ for more features in Hangouts
To access more advanced features of Hangouts, like starting Hangouts with Google+ circles or sharing your Google+ photos, you’ll need a Google+ account.
Start a Hangout
You can start a Hangout with anyone you’d like as long as the person has a Google Account. If you start a Hangout with someone who doesn’t have a Google account, an invitation will be sent to their email address asking them to join Hangouts.

Hangouts in Gmail makes it easy to communicate with the people you care about! In addition to being able to message people and have face-to-face video calls, you'll also get new features that help bring your conversations to life, including:

Group Hangouts with up to 100 people

Sign in to or out of Hangouts
When you sign in to Hangouts from Gmail, Google+, or the Chrome extension on any computer, you're automatically signed in to Hangouts in all of these places. The same applies when you sign out.
